Deals Down Under ("we", "our", "us") is a retail shopping app that helps customers search inventory, scan product barcodes, speak with a voice-powered shopping assistant, and participate in our Boomerang Bucks loyalty program.

Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use our app:

  • Loyalty account info: First name, last name, email address, and phone number — provided voluntarily when you sign up for our loyalty program.
  • Device identifier: A random session ID generated on your device to maintain your chat history. This is not linked to your identity.
  • Voice data: When you use the voice assistant, your speech is processed in real-time by our AI voice provider (Vapi) to understand your request. We do not store voice recordings.
  • Barcode data: When you scan a product barcode, we use your camera to read the barcode number and look up product information. We do not capture or store photos.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide product search results and recommendations
  • To track your Boomerang Bucks loyalty points and reward progress
  • To process referral bonuses when you invite friends
  • To improve our product inventory and shopping experience

Device Permissions

  • Camera: Used solely to scan product barcodes in-store. No photos are captured or stored.
  • Microphone: Used solely for the voice shopping assistant feature. Voice is processed in real-time and not recorded.
  • Bluetooth: Used so you can interact with the voice assistant using a Bluetooth headset.

Third-Party AI Services and Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. To provide our AI-powered features, the app sends certain data to the following third-party AI service providers:

1. Vapi (Voice AI Provider)

  • What data is sent: Your voice audio when you use the Voice Assistant feature.
  • Why: To convert your speech to text and generate spoken responses in real-time.
  • Retention: Vapi processes voice data in real-time and does not retain your voice recordings after the conversation ends.
  • Provider: Vapi Inc. (vapi.ai/privacy)

2. Anthropic (Chat AI Provider)

  • What data is sent: Your text messages when you use the Chat Assistant feature.
  • Why: To understand your product queries and generate helpful responses about our inventory.
  • Retention: Anthropic does not use data sent via its API to train models. Messages are processed and not stored long-term.
  • Provider: Anthropic PBC (anthropic.com/privacy)

Your consent: The app will ask for your permission before sending any data to these AI services. You can use the barcode scanner and loyalty features without consenting to AI data sharing. Both third-party providers maintain data protection standards equal to or exceeding our own.

SMS/Text Messaging

When you join our Boomerang Bucks loyalty program and provide your phone number, you may receive SMS text messages from Deals Down Under. These messages may include:

  • New product arrival notifications
  • Personalized offers and promotions
  • Loyalty reward updates (Boomerang Bucks balance, bonus points)
  • Store updates and special events

Message frequency: Message frequency varies, up to 3 messages per week.

Message and data rates may apply. Contact your wireless carrier for details about your text messaging plan.

Opt-out: You can stop receiving SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message. You will receive a one-time confirmation that you have been unsubscribed.

No mobile information sharing: We do not sell, share, or provide your mobile phone number or any information collected through our SMS program to third parties for their own marketing purposes. Your mobile information will never be shared with third parties or affiliates for promotional purposes.

Data Storage and Security

Your loyalty account data is stored securely on our servers. Session data (chat history) is temporary and automatically cleared. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information.

Your Rights

You can:

  • Log out of the app at any time, which clears all locally stored data
  • Request deletion of your loyalty account and associated data
  • Use the app without signing up (chat and scan features work without an account)

Children's Privacy

Our app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
